Bring Back Family Game Night

Your to-do list has probably been filled with shopping, planning, and extra holiday events. All the while, you're trying to make time to actually enjoy the season with your family. So we wanted to help cut down on your shopping time, while also helping you create memories with your family! Some of our favorite family memories and hardest laughs have come from times of playing games together. These family games are fun for both young and old, so the parents will enjoy game night just as much as the kids! Additionally, they have all been released in the last year or two, so you’re less likely to be getting a last minute gift that they already have.

Below, you'll find brand new games in 3 categories: low energy, high energy, and multiplayer video games. The low and high energy games are either board or card games that are sure to provide a great time, no matter how much energy the parents have by the end of the day! We'll begin with games for families with younger kids and continue up to games for teenage and adult children.

Preschool - 6 and up

Low energy:

Video games:

Finding suitable video games for kiddos that can't read can be very difficult. There are plenty of new releases for this age in the single player 3DS or app category, but that’s not going to involve the whole family. Since 2012, very few multiplayer games have been released with the Early Childhood ESRB rating. Due to this, the video games listed below are rated for everyone and will require some help from the parents with reading or play, but will still be fun for the little ones. If you have any suggestions in this area, we’d love to hear about it!

 

Rocket League - Cross Platform: $19 - $40

Who will be more successful? It’s not just cool, it’s Ice Cool!"


High energy:

 
"This could be the most fun families will have all year. It’s non-stop silliness as players choose five cards and race to do their tasks ASAP. Can they act like a dog, make a paper fan, take a photo, play air guitar, and cry before anyone else? Who knows! The player to finish first wins, but everyone will be doubled-over laughing like hyenas. (And, no, that’s not one of our prompts). "


Video Game:

Overcooked - Cross platform: $24 - $54

10 and up

Low energy:

15 and up

Low energy:

"Hasbro's twist on the online viral 'Whisper Challenge' sensation, the 'Hearing Things Game' has players guessing what they think their teammate is saying by reading their lips. One player puts on the speech-cancelling electronic headphones and the other player says the random phrase shown on the card. The player wearing the headphones can't hear what their teammate is saying and has to figure it out to earn the card."
 

High energy:

Thames & Kosmos Word Slam: $30.00

"In Word Slam, two teams each have a storyteller. The two storytellers are given the same answer term. Playing at the same time, they must give clues to their teams so the teams can correctly guess the answer. And they must do this quickly, because they are racing the timer and each other. But it’s not that easy. Speaking and acting is absolutely forbidden for the storytellers! They must tell their stories using only 105 cards, each with one word on it- a noun, verb, adjective, or preposition. It’s like charades, but instead of acting, you can only communicate with word cards!"
